Affirm is our confirmation program for students in 6th to 8th grade. We meet twice a month on Sunday at 9:35 am in the youth room. One meeting is for a more formal Affirm Class. In class we hear stories from the Bible and talk about how those stories shape our lives and our faith. We learn about the roots of Lutheranism and hear about the radical reformer Martin Luther. We dive into our questions and the struggles with faith that we face every day.
The other monthly Affirm gathering is what we call Affirm Hang Out. We might continue our discussion of the month’s theme, but we’ll also play ping pong and air hockey, plan future activities or do some kind of community service. We also join Wednesday night Family Time dinners and food packing and anything else going on with Family Time that sounds fun!
Affirm spans three years for students and ends with students presenting a project to the congregation on Reformation Sunday in October during a student’s 9th grade year in school. There’s learning, service projects, family potlucks, and fun events like snow-tubing, bowling and game night that are planned throughout the year!
We also go to New Hampshire for what we call Mountain Camp each year in June. Those entering sixth grade in the fall are invited to join us as they start Affirm—and every year after that!
